Ecoulements à surface libre

Un modèle numérique a été proposé pour résoudre des problèmes d’écoulement de fluides complexes à surface libre en dimension deux ou trois. Les inconnues sont la fraction de volume liquide dans la totalité de la cavité contenant le fluide ainsi que la vitesse et la pression dans le liquide. Un algorithme de « splitting » est utilisé pour découpler les phénomènes de convection et de diffusion. L’étape de convection est résolue par une méthode des charactéristiques sur une grille structurée très fine. L’étape de diffusion est résolue par une méthode d’éléments finis classique sur un maillage en tétraèdres de la cavité.

Le modèle a été appliqué avec succès dans le cadre de moulage et remplissage. Il a également été modifié pour tenir compte des bulles de gas qui se forment et sont emprisonnées dans le liquide. Le modèle a également été étendus à des écoulements viscoélastiques dans des domaines complexes. Des expériences réelles comme l’étirement d’un filament ou le flambage ont été reproduits sur ordinateur.

L’analyse mathématique et numérique sur des modèles simplifiés à été réalisée.
